I almost fell over when I read this story. It comes from CNS News, and it boggles the mind. The story is called, “Candidates Split on Pro-Gay Book for 2nd Graders” By Pete Winn CNSNews.com Senior Staff Writer.
Who in the world could be in favor of reading a book to second graders about a prince who, instead of marrying a princess, decides to marry her BROTHER. That’s right…her BROTHER! Talk about a “fairy” tale…or should I say “fairy tail?” The book is called “King and King.”
What in the world has our society come to? Why do some Americans deem it necessary to indoctrinate innocent children into a lifestyle choice that is both a sin and looked down upon by mainstream America? Men marrying men and women marrying women is just not natural, and it is an abomination before God. If, when these kids become adults, that’s the lifestyle they want to choose, so be it.
I have said before, I have no right to tell you how to conduct your bedroom activities. However, I have EVERY RIGHT as a parent to say what kind of trash will NOT be allowed in my childrens’ school curriculum.
As you might expect, Republicans have come out against this being part of a second grader’s curriculum, while liberal Democrats are embracing the notion. I guess that’s no real shocker there.
As for Fred Thompson, here is the quote from CNS News: “The answer is no," Thompson's chief campaign spokesman told Cybercast News Service. "He's very clear. There is no wishy-washiness."
Mitt Romney also spoke out on the issue, saying, “This is a subject that should be left to parents, not public school teachers," the former Massachusetts governor said in a statement. "We need to strengthen our families by passing a federal marriage amendment and also insisting on marriage before having children."
While I agree with the Governor that we need to strengthen our families, I am still torn on the federal amendment issue. However, there is no question that this is most certainly an issue that parents should be deciding, not the public school system. I believe insisting on marriage before having children is a good idea, but I also think it’s a pipe dream.
But what of the Democrats on this issue? John Edwards responded by saying, “Yes, absolutely," Edwards said. "What I want ... is my children to understand everything about the difficulties that gay and lesbian couples are faced with every day; the discrimination that they're faced with every single day of their lives." Well, Mr. Edwards, if you want your children to know that, teach it to them. Don’t leave it up to a stranger in a classroom to do YOUR job!
Mr. Edwards dug his grave a little deeper, saying, "Nobody made me God," said the former North Carolina senator. "I want my children to be able to make that decision on behalf of themselves, and I want them to be exposed to all the information, even in - did you say second grade? Second grade might be a little tough, but even in second grade." With all due (or undue) respect, sir, God made you god over your children. If you feel that you can’t handle raising your kids, you certainly don’t need to be leading our country!
Obama didn’t really address the school issue. The CNS quote is, “Obama, a Democratic senator from Illinois, said he and his wife have already talked to their 9-year-old and 6-year-old about same-sex marriage.
"One of the things I want to communicate to my children is not to be afraid of people who are different, because there have been times in our history where I was considered different," he told his questioner, New England Cable News reporter Allison King.
At least I think he has the right idea. This is a subject that should be handled at home, although I think age 6 is a little young for such an adult topic. So, we don’t really know where Sen. Obama stands on the public school system indoctrinating children into homosexuality.
Hillary, in her typical “Clinton-esque” style, dodged the question. Her CNS quote was: “I think that obviously it is better to try to work with your children, to help your children understand the many differences that are in the world and to really respect other people and the choices that other people make," she said. "And that goes far beyond sexual orientation." No word on whether she thinks it should be taught in schools…although I have a sneaking suspicion that it would not be a problem for her.
To conclude, I don’t think that any of the Democrat presidential hopefuls did themselves any favors by either embracing, or at least not rejecting, the idea of teaching homosexuality to 7 year olds. I tell you, I would not vote for one of them if I was told that I would be hanged if I didn’t. It is despicable to think that we have leaders who actually favor this kind of immoral teaching to our kids.
After I write this and post it, I will be calling my kids’ school to see if this book is in their curriculum. And if it is, you may well hear the name Mike Minton on tonight’s newscast.
Until next time…
