Sex Offenders “Sign Up”

This next story just warms my heart. It seems there is this seventy-two year old pervert out in central Kansas who has a fetish for eleven-year-old boys. Although originally charged with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a nine-year-old girl and an eleven-year-old boy in 2005, Leroy Schad was given a plea deal of the lesser charge of aggravated indecent solicitation of a child.

Now, normally a plea deal like this would get Mr. Right Opinion’s blood boiling. I mean, what judge in their right mind would allow such a thing, right? How about a very crafty one.

You see, Mr. Schad is now on five years’ home incarceration. Now, granted, that alone would not suffice as a punishment for what he was convicted of. However, part of Mr. Schad’s sentence is that he must post hand-painted signs on all four sides of his house which boldly proclaim, “A Sex Offender Lives Here.”

And if he is allowed to go to the store, or maybe church for “confession?” Well, his car has a decal which carries a similar message: “Sex Offender In This Car.” In bright, bold yellow letters. Nice touch, Your Honor.

And from what I can glean, these signs must remain posted throughout the five-year sentence.

The judge who rendered this decision is District Judge Ron Svaty. And in my book, he is a true American hero.

Schad, who is appealing the signage, could have received three years in prison for his perverted acts with the minor. Said he, “I know that I deserve something for that, but I don't think I deserve what I got.” Well, Mr. Schad, I think you are wrong. I think you should have served the three years, and THEN gotten the five years of signage.

Schad is appealing the sign part of his sentence. Gee, I wonder if the ACLU will get involved to come to this predator’s defense. They love causes that allow sex conduct by adults with kids (NAMBLA, for instance). Or would that fall under the jurisdiction of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals?

If you would like to show Judge Ron Svaty your support, I would encourage you to call his office at 785-472-8931. Way to go, Judge!
